I want an allotment! I joined the Council waiting list and was advised it is a 2 year waiting list. So in preparation for that exciting day when I get the call, I've decided to employ my time in my modest back garden and see what I can learn. I have currently set out a 1mx3m raised bed and I am digging an area about 2.5x2.5m. So not huge but manageable for this year. I hope not to bore you if you stumble onto this blog, but I can't promise great gardening advice, not yet anyway.
Today I felt like I achieved in the garden. My mum gave me some strawberry plants so they are in the raised bed. I covered them with fleece this evening, I've no idea if this is right but it's quite chilly and I for one wouldn't want to be exposed in this weather. Got to ring my mum about the raspberry canes as I've no idea what to do with them. I have dug the area where they are destined to go once I have the knowledge.
The boys helped with the seed potatoes today. I went for sturdy sacks times two with 5 potatoes in each. They are Maris Pipers by the way.
We also planted sunflower seeds for a community competition. I'm very competitive so I really hope they grow.
I also have pepper plants that I grew from seed, oh yes all nine grew. So now I am in the happy position of maybe giving a couple away. Not sure I can bear to though, it's very sad but I'm just not sure I trust my friends to care for them properly!! The cherry toms are awaiting germination, a few more days should do it fingers crossed.
That's where i've got to just now, hopefully some photos next time.
